Leaving the warm Atlantic breezes of Ft. Lauderdale behind, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology this year ventures to the Great Northwest and Seattle, for the Annual ARVO meeting, May 5 to 9. The theme of this year’s meeting: Life-changing Research.

That theme is well-reflected in the thousands of abstracts submitted by researchers, clinicians and surgeons from around the world. As we have done for many years, this year’s ARVO report attempts to collect what we feel are representative trends and research initiatives that will be of interest to the practicing ophthalmologist. Some may be early in their development; others may be well-established. We encourage the reader to explore the abstracts that we report here and others that interest you at the ARVO website, arvo.org. After each abstract you’ll find a citation representing the abstract number, which you can use to locate the original report. (Where there was financial support or other commercial relationship reported, we so indicate with each abstract.)

We want to thank our board members and medical editors who have helped us prepare this year’s report, and the researchers who have cooperated with us to bring you the latest data in the six subspecialties shown on the left.

Enjoy.
